Meet the Chief Deputy Sheriff

Major Chief Deputy J.D. Marksberry Major Chief Deputy J.D. Marksberry

Major J.D. Marksberry was born in Franklin, Kentucky, but has spent the majority of his life in Daviess Counrty. He graduated from Apollo High School and attained his BA from the University of Kentucky. He was also a student of FlightSafety International in Vero Beach Florida where he flew single and multi-engine aircraft.


Major Marksberry started his career with the Daviess County Sheriff's Office in 1990 as a patrol deputy. He has spent his entire career in our Patrol Division and has served in several supervisory positions. In 2008 he was promoted to Captain of Patrol. In May 2010, he was promoted to his present rank and serves as Chief Deputy.


Major Marksberry has completed numerous training courses through the Department of Criminal Justice training and has attended several leadership seminars. In 2000 he completed his training through IPTM to become an accident reconstructionist.


Major Marksberry's current duties include overseeing patrol activities, writing and managing several grants, and tracking the training requirements for Sheriff's Office personnel. He serves on the Daviess County Election Board, the Crisis Intervention Training Board, the joint Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC), and the 911 Advisory Board. He also continues his involvement in our office's highway safety traffic enforcement activities.
