INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION

Under the leadership of Sheriff Bradley Youngman, the Daviess County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division has recently undergone significant restructuring. As of 2023, Detective Captain Jeff Payne has assumed command of the division, bringing with him 23 years of law enforcement experience from various agencies. The division now consists of three units: General Investigations, Forensic Investigations, and Special Investigations.

GENERAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT:

The General Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating all reported FELONY crimes within Daviess County, KY. Utilizing advanced technology and effective investigative techniques, the unit focuses on solving cases involving homicide, robbery, burglary, theft, sexual offenses (adult and juvenile), and major assaults. Additionally, the unit handles evidence collection, preservation, and presentation in court. Collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies allows the unit to maximize available resources. Misdemeanor crimes will still be investigated by the responding deputy, with support from the General Investigations Unit as needed. The unit is led by Detective Sergeant Kelsey Skaggs, supported by Detective Corporal Chris Hayes, Detective Matt Fitzgerald, and Detective Steve Morgan with plans for additional detective recruitment to strengthen the team.

FORENSIC INVESTIGATIONS UNIT:

Dr. Cheryl Purdy leads the Forensic Investigations Unit, which focuses on various areas, including digital forensics. The unit specializes in examining and analyzing evidence from mobile phones, computers, surveillance camera recording systems, digital cameras, camcorders, tablets, and drones. Their expertise contributes to the comprehensive investigation of cases, assisting in uncovering crucial information. The unit works closely with other investigative units to enhance overall case outcomes.

SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT:

The Special Investigations Unit addresses specific cases that require specialized knowledge and

tactics. This unit handles complex and high-profile investigations, working in collaboration with

local, state, and federal agencies to combat organized crime, drug offenses, financial crimes, and

other significant criminal activities.

With these strategic changes and the addition of experienced personnel, the Daviess County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division is better equipped to effectively and efficiently investigate crimes, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
